ASA is an amorphous thermoplastic terpolymer consisting of acrylonitrile, styrene and acrylate. ASA is a so-called engineering plastic with exceptional weather resistance. Unlike many plastic materials, ASA retains its colour and impact resistance, even after long-term outdoor use. ASA is often used for residential roofing, transport equipment covers, outdoor machinery and electrical equipment when persistent colour and impact resistance is required.
Acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile (ASA) was first introduced by BASF around 1970 under the trade name Luran S. The intention was to create a material similar to ABS, but with better weather resistance. Because of this attribute of ASA, it has been widely used in the automotive industry, as well as for various outdoor applications. The main brand names are Luran S and Geloy.
