Professional 3D scanning and physical-object digitisation service for reverse engineering, documentation, restoration, industrial design, spare parts, prototyping and preparation for manufacturing. We assess each object and agree the level of processing and file type the project actually requires.
Pricing is provided by quotation because capture and processing time depend on size, geometry, surface, required detail, intended use and requested deliverables.
Choose the right level of processing
| Service level | What it includes | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Raw scan | Capture and delivery of the data with the agreed basic processing. | Customers with the software and experience to continue processing. |
| Scan + cleaning | Removal of artefacts, repair and mesh optimisation within the approved scope. | Visualisation, archiving or 3D printing when the captured geometry is suitable. |
| Scan + modifications | Adjustment, adaptation or redesign after digitisation. | Modified spares, interfaces, corrections or preparation for a new use. |
| High technical complexity | Project-specific assessment, CAD reconstruction, comparison or advanced processing defined in the quotation. | Reverse engineering, difficult geometry and industrial applications. |
Important: a raw scan is not necessarily a closed, printable mesh or an editable CAD model. We recommend the appropriate service level for the result you need.
Service capability
| Indicative object size | 15 to 1500 mm; larger objects may be assessed for sectional capture |
|---|---|
| Published nominal accuracy | Up to 0.05 mm under suitable conditions; not a universally guaranteed tolerance |
| Published nominal resolution | Up to 0.10 mm, subject to the object, setup and capture |
| Possible formats | STL, OBJ, STEP and other agreed formats according to the processing purchased |
| Quotation | Customised for the object, purpose, difficulty and deliverables |
Actual accuracy and resolution depend on size, geometry, working distance, calibration, object stability, line of sight, texture, surface finish and processing. Nominal figures do not mean that every point on every object can be captured at those values.
STL, OBJ or STEP: different deliverables
- STL: represents the surface with triangles. It can be prepared for 3D printing but does not contain parametric CAD features or dimensions.
- OBJ: is also mesh based and may retain surface information depending on the project.
- STEP: is intended for CAD exchange. Producing an editable, manufacturable part may require reconstructing surfaces, holes, planes and features; this is quoted as reverse engineering or additional modelling.
Tell us the destination software and intended use. This avoids receiving a mesh when you need a CAD solid, or paying for reconstruction when you only need to archive the shape.
Objects requiring special assessment
Optical scanning requires the equipment to see the surface. The following may need preparation, reference markers, multiple captures, disassembly or reconstruction:
- Transparent, translucent, highly reflective, very dark or textureless surfaces.
- Deep cavities, undercuts and hidden areas that cannot be viewed externally.
- Very thin edges, narrow holes, small threads or details close to the resolution limit.
- Flexible, deformable, moving or unstable objects.
- Delicate, heritage or finished items that cannot accept contact or surface preparation.
Any surface treatment is agreed in advance. It is not applied to a sensitive object without authorisation.
How the service works
- Assessment: we receive photographs, approximate dimensions, material, finish and project objective.
- Proposal: we define feasibility, processing, deliverables, lead time and quotation.
- Receipt: after quotation approval, we arrange delivery or shipment of the object.
- Capture: we digitise accessible areas from the required viewpoints.
- Processing: we align and process the data according to the selected service level.
- Validation: we check scale, orientation, critical areas and agreed requirements.
- Delivery: we supply the files and return the object under the quotation terms.
Information required for a quotation
- Overall photographs and close-ups of important areas.
- Approximate dimensions and weight where shipping or handling is affected.
- Material, colour, gloss, transparency and surface condition.
- Final objective: documentation, printing, modification, comparison, CAD reconstruction or manufacturing.
- Required output format and destination software, if known.
- Required accuracy or tolerances, reference surfaces and critical dimensions.
- Whether the item may be disassembled, stabilised or surface prepared.
- Deadline and any confidentiality, handling or return requirements.

It is for you if
- You have a physical object whose geometry needs to be preserved, studied or reused.
- You need a mesh for visualisation or printing and understand that cleaning may be required.
- You want to assess CAD reconstruction or modification from an existing object.
- You can identify the intended use and the critical areas or dimensions.
It is not for you if
- You expect any object to become a production-ready parametric CAD file automatically.
- You require a certified tolerance without agreed references, method and acceptance criteria.
- The object cannot be shipped, handled or prepared and its surface prevents reliable capture without alternatives.
- You intend to copy a protected component without the necessary rights or permission.
