MGN12 linear guide rail for compact, rigid and repeatable motion in 3D printers, light-duty CNC machines, automation, instruments and mechanical projects. It is available in 300, 400, 450, 500 or 600 mm and uses the narrow MGN12 format with separately sold recirculating-ball carriages.

This is the same guide family used in our HPRO printers. Its finish and smooth motion make it a practical choice where space is limited, provided that the supporting surface, alignment, lubrication and assembly are correctly designed.

Nominal MGN12 dimensions

FeatureNominal dimension
Available lengths300, 400, 450, 500 or 600 mm
Rail width WR12 mm
Rail height HR8 mm
Mounting-hole pitch P25 mm
Counterbore diameter D6 mm
Counterbore depth h4.5 mm
Through-hole diameter d3.5 mm
Nominal mounting screwM3

These dimensions describe the nominal MGN geometry and help with support design. The distance from each end to the first hole may vary with rail length and cut position; if it is critical, measure the supplied rail before machining the final part.

Compatible carriages in our catalogue

This rail is compatible with the MGN12H carriage. C identifies the compact block and H the longer block. Where both are available they share the same MGN12 rail section, but block length and longitudinal thread spacing differ.

It is not compatible with a different MGN size. A third-party block carrying the same MGN12 designation may be geometrically close, but dimensions, fit and preload should still be checked because manufacturing tolerances vary.

Selecting length and calculating travel

The stated length is the rail length, not usable travel. Available motion is reduced by carriage length, safety margins and mechanical stops. Designs with a long block or several blocks must also allow for their spacing and occupied length at both ends.

  • Select length from the required stroke, support rigidity and installation space.
  • Do not use the end of the rail as the working stop; add physical retention or geometry that prevents the block from running off.
  • Two parallel rails require a structure that allows alignment without forcing the carriages.
  • For an HPRO or other machine replacement, confirm MGN size, length, hole positions and assembly revision before ordering.

Recommended installation

  1. Clean the supporting surface and remove burrs, paint residue and particles.
  2. Place the rail on a flat, rigid base and start every screw without fully tightening it.
  3. Align the rail and tighten progressively to avoid distorting it.
  4. With two guides, secure the reference rail first and align the second while moving the carriage assembly.
  5. Check the entire stroke by hand before powering motors. There should be no tight spots or abrupt changes in effort.

A straight rail may still bind on a twisted base or when two rails are not parallel. Do not hide poor alignment by increasing motor force; correct the geometry first.

Cleaning, lubrication and maintenance

Before first use, check that the raceways are clean and carry a light lubricant film. If protective oil is removed, lubricate again. A light lithium-soap grease or a plastic-compatible linear-guide lubricant may be used; apply sparingly and move the block several times to distribute it.

Avoid solid-particle lubricants and keep abrasive dust, swarf and filament debris away from the block. Cleaning and relubrication intervals depend on travel, speed, load, temperature and environment; inspect the axis if noise rises, dry areas appear or motion changes.

This is for you if

  • You need a compact MGN12 guide for a 3D printer, light CNC machine or automation axis.
  • You plan to pair it with an HTA3D MGN12 carriage and can provide a flat, aligned mounting surface.
  • You want the guide family that we use successfully in our HPRO machines.

This is not for you if

  • Your engineering calculation requires a certified load rating, preload or accuracy class.
  • Your design uses another MGN section or needs a length outside the available options.
  • You cannot protect the motion system against misalignment, contamination or accidental carriage removal.

Package contents
