Description
This hobbed bolt is the drive component responsible for gripping and feeding filament in Greg's Wade style extruders and other RepRap-derived designs. The precision-machined hobbed section provides the traction required to move filament consistently towards the hotend.
It is manufactured from an M8x60 DIN 931 ISO 4014 grade 8.8 bolt. The hobbed section is positioned approximately 25 mm from the bolt head, making it suitable for many classic extruder designs including Greg's Wade, Prusa i3, Prusa i3 Rework and similar RepRap-based extruders.
Function within the extrusion system
The hobbed bolt works together with an idler bearing to grip the filament and feed it at a controlled rate. Proper tooth geometry improves filament traction while reducing the force required from the idler mechanism.
