Flexible thermal insulation designed for installation underneath a 3D printer heated bed. Its three-layer construction helps reduce downward heat loss, contributing to more efficient heating and improved temperature stability.

This is a passive component: it requires no electrical power and may be used with heated beds operating at different voltages, provided that its dimensions, operating temperature and mounting method are suitable.

Three-layer construction

  • First metallised PET layer: provides a reflective outer surface.
  • Intermediate air chamber: reduces direct heat transfer towards the lower part of the machine.
  • Second metallised PET layer: completes the thermal barrier and protects the internal structure.

The resulting improvement depends on the power and construction of the heated bed, the area covered, the operating temperature and the quality of the installation. It does not replace a correctly configured temperature-control system.

Compatibility

It may be used in 3D printers, light CNC machines and other equipment with a heated platform when the following conditions are met:

  • The insulation fits underneath the bed without interfering with screws, springs, spacers or brackets.
  • There is sufficient clearance throughout the complete bed movement.
  • Electrical connections, solder joints, exposed tracks and terminals remain properly insulated.
  • The selected fastening method can withstand the operating temperature.
  • The actual temperature does not exceed the insulation material's admissible limit.

As no dimensions or maximum operating temperature are currently documented, both must be checked on the supplied unit before installation in a particular machine.

Recommended installation

  1. Disconnect the machine completely and allow the heated bed to cool.
  2. Position the insulation underneath the bed and check that it does not cover screws, sensors, thermal fuses, solder joints or cable outlets.
  3. Treat the metallised surfaces as potentially conductive and prevent contact with exposed terminals or PCB tracks.
  4. Insulate connections where required. 15 mm temperature-resistant Kapton tape may be used for localised insulation and fastening; it is not included.
  5. Secure the insulation with temperature-resistant tape or a suitable mechanical method. This product is not described as self-adhesive.
  6. Move the bed manually through its complete travel before reconnecting the machine.
  7. Supervise the first heating cycle and stop the system if odour, discolouration, deformation or layer separation appears.

Precautions

  • Do not install it on the printing surface.
  • Do not cover the thermistor or alter its contact with the heated bed.
  • Do not use it as the primary electrical insulation barrier.
  • Do not press terminals or solder joints against the metallised surfaces.
  • The material is not documented as flame-retardant or non-combustible.
  • Inspect its condition periodically, particularly around wiring and electrical connections.
