Smooth idler pulley with an integrated bearing and a nominal 16T-equivalent size, designed to guide or tension 6 mm GT2 belts when the smooth back of the belt contacts the pulley.
Its compact format is useful in 3D printers, CNC machines and motion mechanisms with limited space. The side flanges help keep the belt within the running area when the belt path is correctly aligned.
Features
- Type: smooth idler pulley with bearing.
- Running surface: smooth, without teeth.
- Nominal size: 16T equivalent.
- Compatible belt width: 6 mm.
- Bearing inner diameter: 3 mm.
- Nominal mounting: 3 mm axle or screw, usually M3.
- Body material: aluminium.
- Bearing: integrated.
- Side flanges: yes.
When should a smooth idler be used?
A smooth idler should be used when the back of the belt runs against the pulley. If the toothed side contacts the pulley, use a GT2 16T toothed idler with a 3 mm bore.
Even when their nominal sizes are similar, smooth and toothed idlers are not functionally interchangeable. The correct choice depends on the intended belt path.
Installation
- Secure the assembly through the bearing inner race.
- Use washers or spacers that do not press against the flanges or rotating body.
- Check that the pulley rotates freely after tightening the screw.
- Keep the pulley aligned with the rest of the belt path.
- Apply only enough tension to remove unwanted play.
Compatibility
It is compatible with the smooth back of 6 mm GT2 belts, including our standard fibreglass-reinforced GT2 belt and wear-resistant coated GT2 belt.
It can be used in certain RepRap or Prusa i3-derived designs mounting the idler on an M3 screw, provided that the bracket is designed for a smooth 16T-size pulley and a 6 mm belt. The presence of an M3 screw alone does not guarantee compatibility.
The wear-resistant belt can be a useful upgrade for basic or frequently used machines, but it cannot correct a misaligned, seized or excessively tensioned pulley.
