DIN 7991 / ISO 10642 countersunk hex socket screw, manufactured from class 10.9 steel with a black oxide finish. Its flat 90° countersunk head can sit flush with the surface when installed in a compatible countersunk hole.
It is suitable for plates, brackets, guides, enclosures, profiles and mechanical assemblies where a protruding screw head could interfere with other moving components.

For countersunk screws, nominal length is measured from the top of the head to the end of the screw. The selected length therefore includes the complete head.

Mounting requirements
For the head to sit correctly flush, the part must have a 90° countersink with a suitable diameter and depth for the selected thread size. Matching the thread diameter alone does not guarantee head-seat compatibility.
DIN 7991 remains a widely used reference and is commonly associated with ISO 10642, but the two designations should not be assumed to be dimensionally identical in every replacement. In tightly dimensioned assemblies, check the countersink diameter and final head position.
Mechanical considerations
The countersunk geometry reduces the load capacity of the head. Although the steel is class 10.9, the same tightening torque used for a cylindrical-head screw of the same diameter should not be applied automatically.
The correct torque also depends on the material of the part, thread engagement, surface finish, lubrication and assembly loads. In plastic, aluminium or printed parts, excessive tightening may deform or crack the countersunk seat.
Where a flush head is not required, the DIN 912 / ISO 4762 socket head cap screw or the ISO 7380 button head screw may be more suitable.
