500 × 500 × 8 mm machined cast aluminium plate, designed by HTA3D for large-format 3D-printer beds. Its thick construction provides a robust platform with substantial thermal inertia on which to integrate a heater and print surface selected for the machine.

Only the machined plate is supplied. Its geometry includes four countersunk M4 holes for main mounting and four auxiliary M3 threads along one edge.

The four M3 threads are symmetrically arranged around the centre with consecutive spacing of 40, 80 and 40 mm. They are auxiliary points whose final function depends on the machine design.

Completing the bed assembly

It can be paired with the 400 × 400 mm, 220 V, 800 W adhesive silicone heater. This leaves a nominal 50 mm margin on each side; before bonding, define heater centring, cable exit, sensor position, protective earth and thermal-fuse location.

Available top surfaces include the 500 × 500 mm borosilicate glass plate and the 500 × 500 mm textured PEI flex plate with magnet. A custom magnetic system can also be prepared with the cut-to-size adhesive magnetic sheet.

Large-format considerations

At 500 mm, the frame, lifting system and heater must be engineered as one assembly. Thickness improves rigidity, but the plate and added components have substantial mass and require suitably sized supports, motors, lead screws or belts.

  • Check the surface after transport, after assembly and at operating temperature.
  • Distribute supports according to the design and do not pull the plate with uneven screw tension.
  • Allow sufficient freedom for thermal expansion and protect the heater-cable path.
  • Mechanically tram the bed to XY motion before measuring a mesh.
  • A mesh improves first-layer compensation but does not repair structural or alignment problems.
  • Confirm that warm-up time and measured uniformity suit the intended print material.

The silicone spacers with Ø4 mm passage may be used where the M4 structure is compatible. The adhesive thermal insulator reduces heat loss from the underside when installed without covering connections or protective devices.

Thermal control and safety

A 400 × 400 mm heater does not cover the entire 500 × 500 mm plate, so temperature should be evaluated at the centre and at several peripheral locations. Final distribution depends on adhesive contact, insulation, ambient conditions, power, sensor and setpoint; it must not be assumed from plate size alone.

220 V installation: work must be carried out by a qualified person. The metal plate requires protective earth, while the heater requires correctly rated switching, RCD and overcurrent protection, an independent thermal fuse, insulated connections and cable strain relief.

Compatibility

Designed for large-format HPRO developments and custom machines. It must not be considered compatible solely because another machine quotes a 500 mm size: verify the actual outside dimensions, 490 × 490 mm M4 pattern, travel, height, cable position, surface and load capacity. Other projects, including RatRig models and industrial machines, may use different dimensions and patterns.

It is for you if

  • You are building a large-format printer with a bed designed around this geometry.
  • You need a robust 8 mm foundation and want to choose the thermal system and print surface.
  • You can size, measure and calibrate the complete assembly.

It is not for you if

  • You need a complete, ready-to-connect heated bed.
  • Your frame cannot accept 500 × 500 mm, the stated pattern or the assembly mass.
  • You require a certified flatness value or a specific metrology tolerance.
