S-60-12 switching power supply designed to convert mains voltage into a 12 V DC output. It can provide up to 5 A, with a maximum output power of 60 W, and is intended for integration into electronic equipment and fixed installations.

Main features

  • Model shown on the unit: S-60-12.
  • Output voltage: 12 V DC.
  • Maximum output current: 5 A.
  • Maximum output power: 60 W.
  • Ventilated metal enclosure.
  • Screw terminals for the AC input and DC output.
  • Output voltage fine-adjustment potentiometer.

Compatibility and power sizing

It can be used with 12 V devices whose total power consumption remains below 5 A and 60 W. A suitable power margin should be maintained, taking into account the current peaks produced by motors, heaters, laser modules and other loads during startup.

Possible applications include LED lighting, control boards, small plotters and certain CNC projects, provided that the total system consumption is checked beforehand. It can also be used with a CNC Shield V3, although final compatibility will depend on the motors, drivers, configured current and other connected components.

It should not be considered universally compatible with every 3D printer, CNC machine or laser engraver. A 3D printer with a heated bed will normally require substantially more power, while some machines without a heated bed may also exceed 60 W once the hotend, motors, fans and electronics are taken into account.

Choosing an alternative power supply

For applications requiring a fully enclosed external power supply and simpler low-voltage connections, the 12 V 5 A external power adapter may be a more suitable option.

If the calculated consumption exceeds this unit's capacity, consider the 12 V 10 A 120 W power supply or the 12 V 15 A 180 W power supply. The correct option must be selected according to actual consumption, startup peaks and the required safety margin.

Installation and safety

  • Check the input voltage marking and configuration before connecting the unit to a 230 V mains supply.
  • Install it inside a suitable enclosure that prevents accidental contact with the terminals and provides adequate ventilation.
  • Correctly connect the protective earth terminal.
  • Use a suitable wire gauge, fuse or circuit protection, disconnecting device and cable strain relief.
  • Perform all wiring work while the unit is disconnected from the mains supply.
  • The mains-voltage installation must be carried out by a person with suitable electrical knowledge.
  • Do not operate the unit while exposed to moisture, conductive dust or loose metal objects.

Output adjustment

The potentiometer allows a small adjustment of the output voltage. Any adjustment must be checked with a multimeter before connecting the load and kept within the voltage range accepted by the powered equipment.

This power supply is not a battery charger. A dedicated charging controller suitable for the battery chemistry and configuration is required.

EQUIPMENT START UP:

  1. Check that the mains voltage matches the input selected for the source (110/220v)
  2. Connect the power supply to the mains to check the output voltage (12/24v)
  3. The output voltage is adjustable, if it differs from the one you want for your application you can turn the regulator, preferably with the equipment off. Never use a metal screwdriver with the equipment on to make this adjustment.
  4. (Depending on the model) This power supply has a regulated fan, it will turn when it has load, check periodically and in the first use that the fan is activated correctly.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COMPACT POWER SUPPLY:

  • Dimension the installation correctly, with an appropriate safety factor.
  • Never block or hinder the fan's air output.
  • Before connecting the equipment to the power supply, check that the available mains voltage corresponds to the voltage value of the equipment.
  • Connect the mains cable of the equipment to a grounded power outlet.
  • Do not place the equipment on wet or damp surfaces.
  • Do not expose the equipment to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
  • Do not expose the equipment to moisture.
  • Do not exceed the maximum input voltage allowed.
  • Comply with the warning and information labels on the equipment.
  • Wear dry clothes and rubber shoes to ensure insulation.
  • Do not insert metal objects into the equipment through the ventilation slots.
  • Do not place containers full of liquids on the equipment (danger of short circuit in case of shock).
  • Do not use the equipment near strong magnetic fields (motors, transformers, etc.).
  • Do not expose the equipment to strong shocks or vibrations.
  • Allow the unit to stabilize at room temperature before taking measurements (important for accurate measurement).
  • Do not modify the equipment in any way.
  • The equipment must be opened for service or repair by qualified personnel. It is recommended that repair work be carried out in the presence of a second person trained to perform first aid if necessary.
  • Keep the power source away from children.
  • Before cleaning the box, pull out the plug from the socket. Clean only with mild household cleaner. Make sure that no water gets inside the equipment to avoid possible short circuits and damage to the equipment.
