Kapton-type polyimide adhesive tape measuring 5mm wide and 33 metres long. Its narrow format is suitable for insulating, masking and securing small components in 3D printers, electronics and BGA or SMD soldering and rework applications.
It combines an electrically insulating polyimide film with a silicone adhesive and is specified to withstand temperatures of up to 280°C. The 5mm width makes it easier to work around sensors, terminals and small components without unnecessarily covering adjacent areas.
Main features
- Backing material: polyimide film.
- Adhesive: silicone.
- Nominal width: 5mm.
- Length: 33 metres.
- Specified heat resistance: up to 280°C.
- Good electrical-insulation properties.
- Narrow format for precision work.
- Clean removal from most suitable surfaces under normal conditions of use.
Typical applications
- Masking small areas during BGA and SMD soldering or rework.
- Thermal protection of components near the working area.
- Insulating electrical terminals and connections.
- Auxiliary securing of thermistors and sensors.
- Holding and organising small wires.
- Electronics assembly, repair and maintenance.
- Auxiliary applications in 3D printers and CNC machines.
Benefits of the 5mm width
This is the narrowest size in the family and is particularly useful for surrounding components, covering specific PCB tracks or working in areas where wider tape would be difficult to position. It also helps reduce unnecessary overlap on small geometries.
Use in 3D printers
It may be used to insulate connections, organise wiring or help secure sensors in locations that remain within its operating limits. It is also useful as an auxiliary consumable when servicing hotends and heated beds.
When securing a thermistor, make sure that the sensor remains correctly positioned. The tape should not be the only retention method where sensor movement could result in an unsafe temperature reading.
Application recommendations
- Clean and degrease the surface before application.
- Apply it to a dry surface without wrinkles.
- Avoid unnecessarily touching the adhesive.
- Press along the complete strip to obtain uniform contact.
- Do not exceed the temperature limit of the protected component or surface.
- Periodically inspect adhesion in applications exposed to continuous heat.
The stated 280°C resistance does not mean that every surface, bond or exposure duration will behave identically. Actual performance depends on exposure time, surface material, mechanical load and process conditions.
