Thermal tip kit for shaping, touching up and repairing plastic using a compatible soldering iron as the heat source. Its eight geometries allow local work on 3D-printed parts, including correcting minor distortion, smoothing burrs, profiling edges, forming grooves and adding material during a repair.

These are not conventional electronics soldering tips. They are intended to transfer heat to thermoplastic so that it can be shaped in a controlled manner.

Kit of eight threaded tips and adapter for shaping plastic with a soldering iron

Included shapes

  • Angled flat tip for pressing, spreading or smoothing small surfaces.
  • Short conical tip for local touch-up work.
  • Star-pattern tip for marking or adding texture.
  • Curved tip for reaching narrow areas and profiling grooves.
  • Leaf-shaped tip for cutting, separating or moving softened material.
  • Rounded cylindrical tip for forming or adjusting recesses.
  • Long conical tip for fine work and additional reach.
  • Ball tip for rounding, hollowing or smoothing transitions.
  • Adapter for fitting the tips to the compatible soldering iron.

3D-printing applications

  • Removing minor burrs, attached strings and surface imperfections.
  • Reprofiling edges or making a small adjustment to a printed recess.
  • Creating channels, recesses or textures in a thermoplastic part.
  • Smoothing a joint or reducing the visibility of a repair line.
  • Melting compatible filler material into a small crack or damaged area.

Thermal repair locally changes the shape and structure of the plastic. Results depend on the material, temperature, amount of filler and part design; a repair should not be assumed to have the same strength as an intact part.

Compatibility

The kit is designed for the 60W digital electric soldering iron with 180–500°C adjustment shown in the photographs. To use it with another iron, the heater and sleeve shape, coupling diameter, available length and retaining system must all match. Similar power or external appearance does not guarantee compatibility.

Assembly order for fitting the adapter and a thermal tip to the compatible soldering iron

Recommended use

  1. Fit the adapter and tip while the iron is cold and unplugged.
  2. Start at the lowest temperature that softens the material.
  3. Test first on a printed offcut made from the same plastic.
  4. Work in short passes without holding the tip stationary or applying excessive pressure.
  5. Allow the part to cool before checking dimensions or repair strength.
Safety: work in a ventilated area and do not heat plastics of unknown composition. The tips, adapter and iron can cause burns and remain hot after disconnection. Place the tool in a stable stand and allow it to cool before changing the tip.

A tip contaminated with plastic should not subsequently be used for electronics soldering, as residues can interfere with tinning and produce fumes when reheated.

Package contents

Eight threaded tips in different geometries and one adapter for the compatible soldering iron. Soldering iron sold separately.
