- Stock: 5
- Model: Extensor-USB-2.0
USB 2.0 extension cable approximately 30cm long, with a USB Type-A male connector at one end and a panel-mount USB Type-A female socket at the other.
It moves an internal USB port to the outside of an enclosure, cover or control panel, providing access without opening the electronics compartment. It is suitable for 3D printers, CNC machines, embedded computers and custom electronics projects.
Main features
- Standard: USB 2.0.
- Input connector: USB Type-A male.
- Output connector: USB Type-A female.
- Approximate cable length: 30cm.
- Female socket with two side mounting ears.
- Metal threaded inserts at the mounting points.
- Black cable and connector housings.
- Mounting screws not included.
Typical applications
- Moving an internal USB port to the outside of an electronics enclosure.
- Creating an accessible USB connection on a 3D-printer panel.
- Enclosures for Raspberry Pi, BTT Pi, compact computers and similar controllers.
- CNC-machine panels, automation equipment and DIY projects.
- Connecting USB drives, adapters, interfaces and other compatible USB 2.0 peripherals.
Panel installation
The female socket has one mounting tab on each side for two screws. Installation requires a central opening for the connector and mounting holes positioned to match the actual part.
Before machining the panel, place the connector against it and mark its outline and mounting holes. No nominal centre-to-centre mounting dimension is specified, so the panel should not be manufactured solely from a generic template.
- Do not allow the panel to compress or deform the connector housing.
- Use screws of a suitable length to avoid damaging the inserts.
- Do not overtighten the screws.
- Route the cable without tight bends or strain at either end.
- Leave enough clearance to insert and remove USB devices.
Compatibility
Physically compatible with standard USB Type-A ports and connectors. It extends an existing USB 2.0 connection and does not change the connector type or convert another communication protocol.
It can carry data and power within the capabilities of the source USB port and connected device. Available speed, stability and current depend on the controller, peripheral, power supply and the rest of the cable path.
Important limitations
- It does not add another port: it extends one existing port.
- It is not a USB hub.
- It does not convert USB Type-A to USB-C, Micro-USB or another format.
- It is not specified as USB 3.x; compatible devices will operate, where supported, within USB 2.0 capabilities.
- Compatibility with proprietary fast-charging protocols is not guaranteed.
- Chaining several extensions may cause voltage drop or communication problems.
USB 2.0 has a theoretical signalling rate of up to 480Mbit/s, although effective speed will be lower and depends on every component in the connection.
Use in 3D printers and CNC machines
The cable can make a control computer or compatible controller-board port accessible from outside the enclosure. This is particularly useful when the electronics are protected inside a closed compartment.
Whenever possible, route it away from motor, heater and high-current power wiring. If disconnections, communication errors or device resets occur, check the power supply, cable routing and total USB connection length.
