12 V, 50 W cylindrical heater cartridge for hotend blocks with a nominal 6 mm heater bore. It is intended for 12 V machines whose electronics, wiring and power supply can safely control its approximate 4.17 A current draw.

Compared with a 12 V, 40 W heater, this cartridge provides more power but increases nominal current from approximately 3.33 A to 4.17 A. It must not be installed as a direct upgrade without checking the complete electrical path.

The declared rating of up to 350 °C applies to the heater cartridge only. The complete hotend remains limited by its heater block, heatbreak, temperature sensor, wiring, firmware and nearby materials.

Original Prusa MK2/S and MK2.5/S printers nominally use 12 V, 40 W heaters. This 50 W cartridge may share the physical format, but it must not be treated as a direct replacement without checking the controller, MOSFET, connectors, power supply and thermal configuration.

Never connect it to 24 V. A resistive cartridge designed for 12 V would dissipate approximately four times its nominal power at 24 V, creating a serious overheating and damage risk.

Installation and initial test

  1. Use a multimeter to confirm that the hotend supply is actually 12 V.
  2. Measure the cold, disconnected cartridge. A reading near 2.9 Ω helps identify the 12 V/50 W version.
  3. Confirm that the output, terminals, wiring and power supply can handle at least 4.17 A with a suitable margin.
  4. Insert the cartridge fully and secure it without deforming its sheath.
  5. Protect the wiring from movement, abrasion and direct contact with hot components.
  6. Verify the sensor and perform the first heating test under supervision using a low target temperature.

No printer-specific connector is included. Any connector or splice must be correctly crimped, insulated and rated for the current and toolhead temperature.

Firmware tuning

  • Marlin: run M303 E0 C8 S210 U1, adapting the target to normal use, followed by M500. For MPC, follow the relevant procedure, commonly M306 T.
  • Klipper: run PID_CALIBRATE HEATER=extruder TARGET=210, followed by SAVE_CONFIG.
  • RepRapFirmware: use M303 H1 S210 for a hotend configured as H1 and then incorporate the resulting M307 parameters.

Keep thermal protection enabled and do not increase firmware temperature limits based solely on the heater-cartridge rating.
