24 V, 40 W cylindrical heater cartridge for hotend blocks with a nominal 6 mm heater bore. This configuration is widely used in 24 V V6-style hotends and is suitable as a replacement when dimensions, voltage, power, cable length and electrical connection all match.

The cartridge has a metal sheath, a ceramic heating core and approximately one metre of red heat-resistant cable. It is supplied without a printer-specific connector.

Compatibility

  • 24 V V6 hotends and derivative blocks with an actual Ø6 × 20 mm cartridge bore.
  • Volcano heater blocks and custom systems with equivalent mounting, retention and electronics.
  • Original Prusa MK3 and MK3S: it matches the documented nominal heater voltage and power, but cable length, termination, connector and printer revision must be checked before treating it as a replacement.

Do not assume compatibility with Original Prusa MK4, MK3.9, CORE One or other Nextruder machines. It is also unsuitable for E3D Revo, Bambu Lab, Phaetus RAPIDO, Dragon ACE, CHC and other hotends using integrated heaters or a different geometry.

A 24 V cartridge must not be installed as a direct replacement in a 12 V machine. At 12 V it would produce approximately one quarter of its rated power and could trigger heating errors.

Checks and installation

  1. Confirm that the hotend output operates at 24 V.
  2. Measure the cold, disconnected cartridge. A reading near 14.4 Ω helps identify the 24 V/40 W version.
  3. Check that its diameter and length allow it to be fully inserted into the block.
  4. Secure it correctly without puncturing or deforming its metal sheath.
  5. Route and secure the cable, avoiding pulling, tight bends, abrasion and contact with the nozzle or heater block.
  6. Fit a suitable connector where required, following the machine pinout and retention system.

Never power the cartridge outside the heater block. Before commanding heat, verify that the temperature sensor reports a stable ambient reading. Supervise the first test and begin with a low target.

Firmware tuning

  • Marlin: run M303 E0 C8 S210 U1, adapting the target to normal use, followed by M500. MPC configurations use their corresponding procedure, commonly M306 T.
  • Klipper: run PID_CALIBRATE HEATER=extruder TARGET=210, followed by SAVE_CONFIG.
  • RepRapFirmware: run M303 H1 S210 for a hotend configured as H1 and incorporate the resulting M307 command.

The heater cartridge does not measure temperature. The thermistor, PT100, PT1000 or other sensor must be configured separately, with limits appropriate for the complete hotend.
