Dragon ACE Volcano PT1000
The Trianglelab Dragon ACE Volcano with 104NT-4 is a high-flow hotend for 1.75 mm filament. It combines a long Volcano-style block, an MZE melt-zone extender, a cylindrical 24 V, 70 W heater cartridge and a 3 mm encapsulated ATC Semitec 104NT-4 thermistor.
The extender lengthens the melt zone without requiring a long Volcano nozzle: this assembly uses short V6-style nozzles with an M6 × 1 thread and 7.5 mm threaded length. It suits projects that need flow and can accommodate the required mount, cooling, sensor configuration and print tuning.
Volcano block, MZE extender and V6 nozzle
The 20 mm tall block and MZE extender lengthen the filament's heated path. Trianglelab publishes a melt zone of up to 40 mm and a practical maximum flow of 74 mm³/s in a test using PETG, the MZE extender and a 1.2 mm nozzle. That figure belongs to those specific test conditions; it is not guaranteed for the supplied nozzle, another material or a different print profile.
The illustrated assembly is approximately 60.6 mm tall, compared with about 52 mm for the standard Dragon ACE shown in the comparison. When replacing a shorter hotend, review nozzle height, part-cooling duct, probe position and Z travel.

The cartridge's calculated nominal resistance is approximately 8.23 Ω and its calculated current is approximately 2.92 A at 24 V. These figures are calculated from the 70 W rating, not measured values for each unit.
The 104NT-4 sets the temperature limit
Some general Dragon ACE descriptions quote 350 °C, but the supplied 104NT-4 thermistor is rated to 300 °C. Do not configure this assembly for 350 °C. Your installation's allowable maximum is whichever component has the lowest limit: sensor, heater, nozzle, wiring, toolhead or electronics. Leave an appropriate margin in the firmware.
The 104NT-4 is neither a generic Beta 3950 thermistor nor a PT1000. Select the correct curve and verify a plausible, stable room-temperature reading before allowing the heater to operate.

In RepRapFirmware, configure it as a 100 kΩ NTC with B25/85 of 4267 K for your actual controller input. Do not copy a PT1000 setup or one written for a Dragon ACE with another sensor.
Mounting and compatibility
Mount it through its four-screw rigid pattern or a suitable V6 Groove Mount adapter. Either way, check the mount, thread depth, nozzle position, heatsink cooling, part-cooling duct, probe, Z height and cable travel.
Voron, Prusa, RatRig, Ender and HPRO projects may accommodate hotends in this family with specific toolheads or adapters. The printer name alone does not guarantee a fit; check the exact CAD and revision.

Heater, nozzle and first use
Before connecting the 70 W cartridge, confirm that the 24 V supply, MOSFET, terminals and cable can handle its current with margin. For a replacement, look for a Ø6 × 20 mm, 24 V, 70 W cartridge and also verify cable length, termination and physical fit. The standard Dragon ACE flat ceramic heater does not fit this Volcano block.
- With the printer off, inspect cartridge and sensor mounting, insulation, continuity and cable strain relief.
- Check that the 104NT-4 reads a plausible room temperature before heating.
- Enable thermal protection, set a maximum with margin below 300 °C and supervise the first heat-up.
- Tune PID near your normal working temperature and verify stable readings.
- Recalibrate Z offset, flow, retraction and pressure compensation after changing the toolhead.
The nozzle must seal against the MZE extender inside the block. Perform final tightening hot while holding the block and follow the lowest torque limit applicable to the installed parts; Trianglelab specifies no more than 2 N·m. Then check for polymer leaks at the joints.

- You need a long melt zone with short V6 nozzles and can calibrate actual flow.
- Your controller supports a Semitec 104NT-4 thermistor and a 24 V, 70 W heater.
- You have a mount and cooling arrangement compatible with the Volcano/MZE height.
It is not for you if
- You need temperatures above the supplied sensor's 300 °C rating.
- Your board is configured only for PT1000 and you cannot change its input or firmware.
- You expect to replace a short Dragon ACE or a long Volcano nozzle without checking geometry.
