WINKLE PLA WOOD 1.75 mm is a Spanish-made filament combining a PLA base with natural wood fibres. It is designed to produce parts with an organic texture and a visual and tactile finish resembling wood, while remaining accessible to print within the filled-filament category.

It is available in Maple, a light and natural shade, and Pine, a warmer brown. Both colours are offered on 300 g and 750 g spools.

Main features

  • Made in Spain by WINKLE.
  • Material: PLA with natural wood fibres.
  • Nominal diameter: 1.75 mm.
  • Available colours: Maple and Pine.
  • Available sizes: 300 g and 750 g.
  • Textured finish with a wood-like appearance and feel.
  • No enclosed chamber required.
  • Minimum nozzle size recommended by WINKLE: 0.6 mm.
  • Spool supplied in a sealed bag with desiccant.

Maple and Pine colours

Maple is the lighter option. Its soft beige shade includes the small variations produced by the fibres. It suits scale models, decorations, figures and parts intended to blend with neutral colours.

Pine has a warmer and more pronounced brown shade. It is a good option when the wood effect should be visually prominent without painting the part.

The fibres are natural, so small shade or texture differences may appear between spools, batches and areas of the same print. This variation contributes to the material's characteristic appearance, but it is unsuitable when a perfectly uniform flat colour is essential.

Recommended print settings

Setting Official range How to use it
Nozzle temperature190-220°CStart near the middle and adjust for the hotend, speed and layer bonding
Bed temperature50-60°CTune the first layer for the selected build surface
Speed40-70 mm/sPrioritise steady flow and slow down if gaps or irregular extrusion appear
Nozzle diameter0.6 mm minimumProvides more fibre clearance than a 0.4 mm outlet
Enclosed chamberNot requiredAvoid unnecessary heat build-up around a PLA part
Part coolingCalibrateStart with a moderate PLA profile and adjust for geometry and bonding

These values are starting points. Do not copy a universal retraction distance: a direct extruder and a Bowden system may need very different settings. For a new spool, print a small temperature tower and flow test before starting a long job.

0.6 mm nozzle and maintenance

WINKLE recommends a nozzle of at least 0.6 mm. The fibres reduce available clearance and a larger outlet is less sensitive to obstructions than smaller diameters. The nozzle must still be clean, the extruder correctly adjusted and the filament path free from forced bends.

Filled filaments can produce more residue and wear than an unfilled PLA during prolonged use. A nozzle with expressly stated wear resistance is advisable for frequent printing. If your hotend accepts an M6-threaded V6 geometry, consider the Trianglelab 0.6 mm V6 hardened A2-steel nozzle. Check its length, thread and sealing face; compatibility is not automatic with proprietary hotends.

Recommended applications

  • Figures, sculptures and decorative objects.
  • Frames, signs and interior-design elements.
  • Architectural models and miniature furniture.
  • Props, dioramas and educational projects.
  • Visual prototypes where texture matters more than mechanical strength.

Parts can be sanded gently to alter their feel and emphasise the texture, but test on a sample first and avoid inhaling the generated dust. This filament is not presented as structural timber or as certified for food contact.

3D-printer compatibility

Compatibility is conditional on an FFF/FDM printer using 1.75 mm filament, reaching 190-220°C and accepting a 0.6 mm or larger nozzle. Suitable configurations may include HTA3D HPRO, Creality Ender-3/Ender-5/CR-10, Anycubic Kobra, Artillery Sidewinder, Original Prusa MK3/MK4 and Bambu Lab A1/P1/X1.

Naming a machine does not guarantee that its original nozzle is suitable. Check diameter, material, hotend geometry and the restrictions of the exact revision. Operation through AMS, MMU, CFS or another automatic feeder is not guaranteed either. Use external or direct feeding if the system manufacturer does not expressly support filled filament.

PLA WOOD limitations

  • It is more brittle than materials such as ABS or PETG and is not intended for impacts or repeated flexing.
  • It may deform under prolonged exposure to temperatures near or above 60-70°C.
  • It absorbs moisture and may lose print quality when stored open.
  • It is not the right choice for prolonged outdoor exposure.
  • Shade and texture may vary because of the natural fibres.

Storage

Store the spool in an airtight bag or container with desiccant, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Popping, steam, excessive stringing or an uneven surface can indicate moisture. If this occurs, dry it using a procedure compatible with PLA and the spool without applying an unverified temperature.

Which wood-effect filament should you choose?

PLA WOOD is WINKLE's current Maple and Pine option in 300 or 750 g formats. For a darker shade and a size up to 1 kg, see WINKLE PLA HD Cork. For a formulation from another Spanish manufacturer documented for a 0.4 mm nozzle, compare it with Sakata 3D PLA Texture Wood.

If you want the simplest printing experience and do not need fibres or texture, standard WINKLE PLA HD provides more headroom with conventional nozzles.

This product is for you if

  • You want a wood-like finish for decorative or artistic parts.
  • You want to choose between light Maple and warmer Pine shades.
  • Your printer uses 1.75 mm filament and accepts a 0.6 mm or larger nozzle.
  • You can print at moderate speed and keep the spool dry.

This product is not for you if

  • You need a structural part resistant to impacts or repeated flexing.
  • The part will face prolonged outdoor use or high temperatures.
  • You can only use a small nozzle or a highly restrictive filament path.
  • You need completely uniform colour between spools and batches.
