Sakata 3D PLA 850 Silk is a filament made in Spain from NatureWorks Ingeo 3D850 with a decorative silky sheen. It is designed for parts where appearance takes centre stage: figures, vases, trophies, lettering, models, cosplay and display objects.

It is supplied as 1 kg spools in Arctic Silk, Clover Green Silk, Midnight Silk, Sunset Silk, FIR Green Silk, Snow Silk and Ocean Silk. The sheen highlights curves and changes of plane, although it can also make variations in speed, temperature or flow more visible.

Representative spool showing the silky glossy finish of Sakata 3D PLA 850 Silk Ingeo 3D850 filament in 1.75 mm

What the Silk finish adds

  • A glossy, silky surface highlighting volumes, relief and curves.
  • A strong visual result for vases, busts, figures, trophies and decoration.
  • Low shrinkage and handling similar to a conventional PLA 850 profile.
  • A broad colour range for projects intended to look finished without painting.

For an even sheen, keep outer-wall speed, acceleration and temperature stable. A temperature tower or small sample helps select the balance between gloss, detail and layer bonding before a long print.

Print settings

SettingRecommended startNote
Nozzle200-220 °CTest within the range: temperature affects sheen and bonding
Heated bedNot mandatory; 40 °C optionalTune for the surface and first layer
Part coolingUp to 100%Reduce initially if it harms adhesion
Layer height0.1-0.3 mmThin layers visually smooth curves at the cost of time
Outer-wall speedModerate and constantPrioritise even sheen over maximum speed
Published PLA850 speedUp to 120 mm/sOnly after validating flow, cooling and finish

On high-speed machines, start from a stable PLA profile. Keep visible walls consistent and increase infill speed where geometry allows. Final appearance also depends on part orientation, layer height, nozzle diameter and lighting.

Heat resistance and annealing

Sakata 3D publishes an 80-90 °C HDT for PLA850 in 100% infill specimens annealed at 110 °C for 15 minutes. This figure must not be applied directly as the service temperature of an unannealed part.

The declared glass-transition temperature for Ingeo 3D850 is 55-60 °C. Annealing can increase crystallinity but may also cause shrinkage, warping and changes in sheen or colour. If fit or Silk appearance matters, validate the process on a sample.

Storage

Keep the spool sealed with desiccant when not in use. If popping, bubbles, stringing or loss of surface quality appears, use a drying programme suitable for PLA and compatible with the spool. Do not apply industrial pellet cycles directly to finished filament.

3D-printer compatibility

It is compatible with open-filament FDM/FFF printers accepting 1.75 mm filament, reaching 200-220 °C and providing part cooling. With a tuned profile it can be used on HTA3D HPRO 330 and HPRO 400; Bambu Lab A1, P1 and X1; Creality Ender-3, CR-10 and K1; Original Prusa MK3, MK4, MINI, XL and CORE One; and Voron 0.2, Trident or 2.4.

There is no single profile for every machine, and compatibility with every multi-spool feeder is not guaranteed. Check spool dimensions, filament path, sensor and manufacturer guidance. On enclosed printers, follow its chamber-ventilation instructions for PLA.

Choose it if

  • You want a silky, glossy finish without painting the part.
  • You print figures, vases, trophies, lettering, cosplay or decoration.
  • You value a Spanish Ingeo 3D850-based filament and can tune the profile for appearance.

It is not for you if

  • You need a matte finish that hides every speed change.
  • Your sole priority is maximum speed without testing sheen and layer bonding.
  • The application requires food, medical or guaranteed heat-resistance certification without validated annealing.

For solid colours see standard Sakata 3D PLA 850; for high-visibility shades, PLA 850 Fluor; to use PLA850 recovered from the production process, RE-850; and for translucent effects, PLA 850 GLASS. Sakata 3D Easy Off can simplify complex supports on PLA 850 parts.

Print with suitable general ventilation. The filament is not certified for food-contact or medical applications.
