Recreus Filaflex 95A Medium-Flex is a 1.75 mm flexible TPU filament made in Spain, designed to produce elastic, durable parts without the feeding difficulty associated with much softer materials. Its Shore 95A hardness offers a useful balance of flexibility, shape recovery and dimensional stability.

It is the firmest and easiest-to-print grade in the Filaflex family. Recreus specifies up to 500% elongation and compatibility with both direct-drive and Bowden systems, making it an excellent introduction to printing gaskets, guards, wheels, grips, flexible hinges, footwear and functional components.

Why choose Filaflex 95A?

  • Shore 95A TPU: flexible, yet firm enough to feed more easily than 82A, 70A or 60A grades.
  • Up to 500% elongation: it can deform and recover its shape provided its elastic limit is not exceeded.
  • Good mechanical strength: suitable for functional parts exposed to bending, impact, friction or compression.
  • High bed adhesion: small parts can be printed without a heated bed and usually without adhesive.
  • Direct-drive and Bowden compatible: with a properly constrained filament path and a tuned profile.
  • Made by Recreus: a Spanish manufacturer specialising in flexible 3D-printing materials.

What does Shore 95A mean?

The Shore A scale measures the hardness of elastomers and flexible materials. A 95A TPU bends and compresses, but provides more support and dimensional accuracy than Filaflex 82A, 70A or 60A. Wall thickness, layer orientation, perimeter count and infill have a major effect on the final feel: a thin wall may be very flexible, while a thick section can feel almost rigid.

If you need more deformation and a softer feel, compare it with Recreus Filaflex 82A Original, Filaflex 70A Ultra-Soft or Filaflex 60A Pro. As hardness decreases, the extruder and filament path generally become more critical.

Technical material properties

The following values come from the current Recreus technical data sheet. They describe the material or standardised test specimens; an FFF part can vary with orientation, moisture, temperature, perimeters, infill and interlayer bonding.

Current Recreus printing parameters

Recreus publishes these starting points for each nozzle diameter. Volumetric flow is more useful than an isolated linear speed because it accounts for extrusion width and layer height. Tune the profile on the actual printer, and do not raise flow until feeding and extrusion are stable.

Nozzle Layer height Line width Initial flow Temperature
0.4 mm0.20 mm0.38 mm4.5 mm³/s245°C
0.6 mm0.30 mm0.58 mm10.1 mm³/s245°C
0.8 mm0.40 mm0.78 mm18.0 mm³/s248°C
1.0 mm0.50 mm0.98 mm28.1 mm³/s250°C

With those combinations, Recreus suggests approximately 29 mm/s for external perimeters, 43-44 mm/s for internal perimeters, 34-36 mm/s for top and bottom surfaces, 57-59 mm/s for infill and about 17-18 mm/s for the first layer. These are starting references, not guaranteed speeds for every machine.

Retraction

Nozzle Distance Speed Z-hop
0.4-0.6 mm1.8-2.5 mm40 mm/s0.2 mm
0.8-1.0 mm2.0-3.0 mm40 mm/s0.2 mm

Use these values as a starting point and reduce retraction if the filament compresses, slips or stops feeding. Recreus recommends the highest travel speed that the machine can achieve safely to reduce stringing; there is no need to force travel speeds that compromise reliability.

Bed, cooling and drying

  • Drying: 55°C for at least 1 hour before printing.
  • Small parts: bed at room temperature.
  • Large parts: 50-55°C as a starting point.
  • Part cooling: normally off; 0% on the first layer and up to 50% only for layers shorter than 20 seconds if required.
  • Adhesive: normally unnecessary. Adjust the first layer and use an adhesion aid only when the surface or geometry requires it.

Direct-drive and Bowden printer compatibility

Filaflex 95A is the most Bowden-friendly Filaflex grade. Even so, “compatible” does not mean that one universal profile will suit every printer: keep the tube as straight as practical, reduce friction and gaps, constrain the filament up to the hotend inlet and avoid excessive idler pressure.

Recreus maintains starting profiles for Bambu Lab P1P/P1S, X1/X1C/X1E, A1/A1 mini, P2S, H2S and H2D models, as well as Prusa MK4/MK4S, CORE One/CORE One+/CORE One L and Prusa XL. The existence of a profile does not mean that every automatic loader or multi-material system can feed TPU: route the spool through a path expressly compatible with flexible filament and check the documentation for the exact hardware revision.

Direct-drive printers with a short, constrained path usually provide the easiest setup. The HPRO-330 is particularly suitable for regular work with flexible materials, although the final profile will always depend on nozzle, geometry and the required finish.

Chemical resistance: always test the real application

Recreus declares resistance to various fuels and solvents, but there is no universal chemical compatibility. TPU behaviour changes with the substance, concentration, temperature and exposure time. The manufacturer's data ranges from favourable performance in some oils or fuels to swelling and major strength loss with alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters and ketones.

Do not assume compatibility with acetone: short-chain ketones may cause very high swelling and a severe temporary loss of strength. For gaskets, fuel, pressure, chemical cleaning or prolonged exposure, test the finished part under its actual operating conditions before use.

Typical applications

  • Gaskets, seals, buffers, dampers and protective parts.
  • Wheels, tyres, grips and covers.
  • Living hinges and flexible mechanisms with good stability.
  • Grippers, soft robotics and industrial components.
  • Soles, insoles, footwear and ergonomic prototypes.
  • Textiles, fashion, accessories and parts designed to recover their shape.

Available colours

Choose from red, blue, green, black, white, fluorescent yellow and skin, subject to availability. Every option on this product page is a 500 g spool of 1.75 mm filament.

It is for you if

  • You want to start printing TPU with a relatively easy-to-feed flexible material.
  • You need elastic, durable parts with more stability than a very soft TPU.
  • Your printer uses direct drive or a well-constrained Bowden system.
  • You want flexible filament from a specialist Spanish manufacturer.

It is not for you if

  • You need the extremely soft feel and deformation of an 82A, 70A or 60A grade.
  • The part must be rigid or carry structural loads without flexing.
  • You need certified chemical, medical or food-contact performance for the finished part without application-specific testing.
  • Your feed system does not support TPU or leaves large gaps where filament can buckle.

Tips for reliable results

  1. Dry the spool and store it sealed with desiccant.
  2. Start with the published volumetric flow and temperature for your nozzle.
  3. Check that filament is constrained from the drive gears to the hotend.
  4. Set idler pressure high enough to feed, but not so high that it crushes the TPU.
  5. Calibrate flow, retraction and first layer before a long print.
  6. Use adequate ventilation, particularly in enclosed spaces.
