Sakata 3D PLA-M Transition is a Spanish-made PLA filament that combines a matte finish with colour changes along the spool. It can produce figures, vases, scale models and decorative objects with changing shades without requiring a multi-material printing system.

Every spool is different. Colours, their order, segment length and number of transitions are random and cannot be selected or guaranteed. You may add a preference to the order notes and we will try to follow it subject to available stock, but it is not a selectable product option. The photograph is an illustrative sample.

How the transition colour works

The colour changes are already incorporated into the filament. As the printer consumes material, the part receives the shades present in that section of the spool. The result depends on part size and material use, layer height, perimeters, infill, purging and the starting point on the spool.

A small part may finish before reaching the next colour, while a higher-consumption print may show one or several transitions. Two identical parts are not guaranteed to have the same shade distribution. Vases, busts, tall figures, decorations and consecutive print sets are particularly effective ways to use the effect.

Print settings

The current Sakata 3D technical data sheet distinguishes conventional and high-speed printing. Values are based on a 0.4 mm nozzle and provide a starting point for calibrating each printer.

480 mm/s is not a universal speed. The 33 mm³/s limit is declared at 240 °C and actual speed depends on geometry, layer width and height, nozzle, hotend, extruder, acceleration and cooling. Start in the conventional range and increase flow only after confirming stable extrusion and reliable layer bonding.

Drying and storage

Drying is optional. If popping, bubbles, stringing or a rough surface appear, Sakata 3D specifies 2–4 hours at 60 °C; feeding from a dryer at 60 °C is also supported. Store the opened spool sealed with desiccant and make sure the dryer controls its temperature accurately.

3D-printer compatibility

It is functionally compatible with FDM/FFF printers designed for 1.75 mm filament and capable of operating within the chosen temperature range. With a properly tuned profile, it can be used on HTA3D HPRO machines and families such as Bambu Lab A1, A1 mini, P1P, P1S and X1 Carbon; Creality Ender-3, CR-10, K1, K1C and K1 Max; Original Prusa MK3, MK4, MINI and CORE One; and Voron 0.2, Trident or 2.4 configurations.

An AMS, MMU or CFS is not required to produce shade changes because they are built into the filament. Automatic-feeder compatibility must be checked separately according to spool dimensions and condition, filament path, friction and system configuration; it is not universally guaranteed.

Material limitations

The data sheet states a density of 1.32 g/cm³ and an HDT of 55 °C at 0.45 MPa. This HDT comes from injection-moulded specimens and is not a guaranteed service temperature for a printed part. Orientation, perimeters, infill, moisture and layer adhesion affect final behaviour.

As with other PLA materials, it is not the first choice for high heat, prolonged outdoor exposure or impact applications without specific validation. It is not certified for food contact or medical applications.

This product is for you if

  • You want matte parts with spontaneous, non-repeatable colour changes.
  • You print vases, figures, busts, decorations, models or visual prototypes.
  • You appreciate that each spool and part can have a different appearance.

This product is not for you if

  • You need to choose exact colours, their order or the precise transition point.
  • The part must match the photograph or be repeated identically as a series.
  • You need gloss, transparency or a part intended for high temperatures.
