Trianglelab four-wire PT100 RTD sensor for accurate temperature measurement in compatible hotends and thermal systems. Its four-conductor connection allows cable resistance to be compensated when used with an interface supporting this measurement method.

Compatibility

It may be used with a V6 hotend when the heater block provides a suitable sensor housing, such as the V6 Heater Block for 3 mm Encapsulated Sensors, M6 Thread, after verifying the actual dimensions and retaining method.

A PT100 must not be connected directly as if it were an NTC thermistor. For this four-wire sensor, a MAX31865 interface correctly configured for PT100 is recommended, such as the MAX31865 V2.0 PT100 to PT1000 Temperature Detector Module for Thermocouple. The MAX31865 is actually an RTD interface rather than a thermocouple interface.

Firmware configuration

  • Marlin 2.1.x with MAX31865: TEMP_SENSOR_0 -5, 100 Ω nominal sensor resistance, four-wire mode and the reference resistance matching the module. The CS pin and SPI bus must also be configured.
  • Klipper with MAX31865: sensor_type: MAX31865, rtd_nominal_r: 100, rtd_num_of_wires: 4 and rtd_reference_r set to the module value.
  • RepRapFirmware 3: configure M308 as rtd-max31865 using the interface chip-select pin.

The module reference resistance, jumpers and wiring must be verified before switching on the machine. Do not copy a PT1000 configuration or assume that every MAX31865 module is supplied with the same settings.

Installation

Install the sensor with the machine disconnected. Check the cold reading, heat progressively and compare the result with an independent reference before enabling elevated temperatures.
