214 × 214mm MK3 ALU heated bed based on the open RepRap architecture, with a 3mm aluminium core and a circuit selectable for 12 or 24V DC. Its classic format suits many Prusa i3, P3Steel, 3DSteel and other RepRap projects when the carriage, holes and electrical system match.

Four corner positions and a front centre hole allow three-point mounting to be considered where the carriage offers the same pattern. It is supplied without wiring or thermistor.

Specifications

Dimensions214 × 214 × 3mm
Supply12 or 24V DC, according to connection
MountingFour corners and one front centre position
CircuitOne 35µm copper layer
Resistance referenceRepRap design: 1.4-1.6Ω at 12V and 5.0-5.4Ω at 24V; verify the unit
Declared maximum temperature180°C; not a recommended setpoint
Contents1 bed; wires and thermistor not included

Dual-voltage connection

  • 12V: pad 1 to positive, pads 2 and 3 to negative.
  • 24V: pad 2 to positive and pad 3 to negative; pad 1 remains unused.

Always check the supplied board's silkscreen. The resistance ranges above belong to the reference MK3 ALU design and can reveal major wiring errors, but they do not replace measuring the supplied unit. Calculate actual current and power using I = V/R and P = V²/R.

Sensor, control and firmware

The bed provides a sensor position but no sensor is included. The wired 100K B3950 NTC thermistor is conditional on mounting, input, connector and firmware. Verify a plausible room-temperature reading and a smooth increase before enabling the heater.

For a confirmed B3950, use Marlin type 11 with a 4.7kΩ pull-up, Klipper Generic 3950, or the equivalent NTC/Beta definition in RepRapFirmware. Keep thermal protection active and tune PID with the final glass, PEI or insulation installed.

The bed output must handle the measured current with margin. Where this is not documented, a 12/24V external MOSFET may be used, while the supply, wiring and fuse are still sized for the actual load.

Mounting and surfaces

Install the black heater side underneath and the aluminium face towards the build surface. Add strain relief, avoid distorting the plate when tightening, and use lower insulation without electrical contact with tracks or pads.

The 214 × 214 × 3mm borosilicate glass matches the plan dimensions. Check clips, Z height, mass and travel, then recalibrate Z offset, first layer and thermal control.

Compatibility

Conditionally compatible with classic Prusa i3, P3Steel, 3DSteel, Anet A8 and other RepRap designs using a physical 214mm bed and matching pattern. It is not presented as a replacement for the Original Prusa MK3/MK3S/MK3S+, whose commercial “MK3” name refers to a different printer and heatbed, or for an Ender-3 with a 235 × 235mm physical platform.
