This Orbiter V2.5 upgrade kit updates the transmission of an existing Orbiter V2.0 extruder without replacing the full assembly. It adds the revised drive-gear geometry, a pre-assembled spider shaft, planetary gears and moulded gear housing.

Important: this is a mechanical upgrade kit, not a complete extruder. It does not include a new motor; compatible Orbiter V2.0 components and motor are reused.

Mechanical parts in the Orbiter V2.0 to V2.5 upgrade kit

V2.5 improvements

  • RNC-coated drive gear with stated hardness above HRC60.
  • Flat-bottom tooth design intended to maintain a more consistent effective diameter.
  • Knurled spider shaft with press-fitted drive gear.
  • Three revised planetary gears and moulded housing.
  • Bearings, bushing, shims, fasteners, grease and 1.5/2.5 mm hex keys supplied.

Compatibility

The kit is designed for Orbiter V2.0. Do not assume compatibility with V1.0, V1.5, clones or visually similar extruders. It does not automatically change the toolhead mount, hotend, filament sensor or motor wiring.

The official material uses two different references for one bearing, so this listing deliberately identifies it by function rather than claiming a disputed bearing code.

After assembly

  1. Confirm smooth rotation before fitting the motor.
  2. Keep grease away from the filament path.
  3. Set latch tension for the actual filament.
  4. Recalibrate steps/mm or rotation_distance; do not assume the previous value remains exact.
  5. Check motor current and temperature during an extended test.

It is for you if

  • You already own an Orbiter V2.0.
  • You want the V2.5 transmission while reusing compatible parts.
  • You can rebuild and recalibrate the extruder.

It is not for you if

  • You need a complete ready-to-install extruder.
  • Your extruder is not a verified V2.0.
  • You do not want to open the transmission or recalibrate extrusion.
