Available Options
POWGE GT2 16-tooth drive pulley for 6 mm belts, made of aluminium alloy and designed to be secured to a 5 mm shaft.
The pulley is locked to the shaft and directly transfers motor movement to the belt. Its 16-tooth format provides a compact transmission and greater linear resolution than a 20-tooth pulley using the same motor and microstepping.
Features
- Brand: POWGE.
- Type: toothed drive pulley.
- Profile: GT2 / 2GT, 2 mm pitch.
- Number of teeth: 16.
- Compatible belt width: 6 mm.
- Inner diameter: Ø5 mm.
- Toothed section outer diameter: approximately Ø9.68 mm.
- Material: aluminium alloy.
- Side flanges: yes.
- Fastening: radial grub screws.
Motor installation
The 5 mm bore is dimensionally compatible with many NEMA 17 stepper motors using a Ø5 mm shaft. NEMA 17 defines the motor flange size rather than the shaft diameter, so the particular motor version must always be checked.
Whenever possible, position one grub screw against the flat section of the shaft. Tighten the screws progressively and check that the pulley is centred, does not wobble and is aligned with the belt path.
Compatibility
It is compatible with 2 mm-pitch, 6 mm-wide GT2 belts, especially the 6 mm fibreglass-reinforced POWGE GT2 belt and 6 mm low-vibration POWGE GT2 RF belt.
It can be used in 3D printers, CNC machines and custom mechanisms jointly specifying a 16-tooth drive pulley, 6 mm belt and 5 mm shaft.
This is not an idler pulley: it does not contain a bearing allowing it to rotate freely around the shaft. Select a suitable bearing-mounted idler for guiding or tensioning positions.
For a 20-tooth transmission, see the POWGE GT2 20T drive pulley for 6 mm belts.
Firmware configuration
With direct drive, a 16-tooth pulley and GT2 belt theoretically provide:
16 teeth × 2 mm = 32 mm per revolution
With a 1.8° motor, 200 full steps per revolution and 16 microsteps, the theoretical setting is 100 steps/mm.
- Marlin: configure the axis steps with
DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNITorM92. - Klipper: use a theoretical
rotation_distance: 32when no reduction is present. - RepRapFirmware: configure steps per millimetre with
M92inconfig.g.
No firmware change is required when replacing another 16T pulley if the motor, microstepping, belt pitch and transmission ratio remain unchanged.
