Sakata 3D RE-FLEX-85A is an 85 Shore A flexible filament manufactured in Spain for FDM/FFF 3D printing. Sakata 3D developed it as an alternative to TPU/TPE materials, combining flexibility, impact absorption and comparatively accessible printing.

This version is supplied in green, 1.75 mm diameter and a 1 kg net spool. It is suitable for protectors, bumpers, grips, model tyres, non-critical gaskets, impact-resistant housings, cosplay elements and parts that need to bend. Final elasticity also depends on wall thickness, perimeter count, infill and model geometry.

Flexible, recycled and made in Spain

The official technical data sheet describes RE-FLEX-85A as 100% recycled, biodegradable and partially renewable. These are the manufacturer's declarations about the formulation; they do not mean that a printed part will break down rapidly under normal conditions or may be discarded in any environment.

It should not be treated as generic TPU: Sakata 3D presents it as its own flexible formulation and an alternative to TPU/TPE. Create a dedicated profile and begin with the official settings instead of copying an arbitrary 95A TPU profile.

SettingSakata 3D starting pointNotes
Nozzle220–245°COfficial reference with a 0.4 mm Brass nozzle.
BedBelow 40°CGlass or PEI; no additional treatment required as a starting point.
Speed10–50 mm/sStart near the lower end and increase after confirming stable feeding.
Part cooling100%Adjust initial layers if the surface needs more adhesion.

EnclosureNot requiredMaintain suitable general ventilation.
Optional drying2–4 h at 60°CIt may also be printed from a 60°C dryer when required.

Because this is an 85A flexible, use a short, closely constrained filament path, limited retraction and enough drive pressure to feed without crushing the material. Direct drive generally makes tuning easier; Bowden systems must prevent the filament from buckling or escaping between the drive gear and tube.

3D printer compatibility

Conditionally compatible with 1.75 mm FDM/FFF printers that reach 220–245°C and have an extruder capable of feeding 85A flexible material. Matching diameter and temperature is not enough: clearance after the drive gears, path length, friction and loading system all matter.

Thanks to their extrusion system, the assembled HPRO-330, HPRO-330 DIY kit and HPRO-400 are particularly favourable options for soft flexible materials. Temperature, flow, retraction and speed must still be tuned for this spool and the specific part.

Important: do not assume compatibility with every AMS, automatic loader or multi-material system. If the printer documentation limits flexible filament, use external feeding or the manufacturer's recommended procedure.

Storage and drying

Store the spool sealed with desiccant. If printing produces popping, bubbles, a rough surface or irregular extrusion, apply the optional 2–4 hour drying cycle at 60°C. Ensure the dryer holds a stable temperature and that the spool turns without resistance during printing.

Responsible use and limitations

The material is not certified for food contact or medical applications. Belts, wheels, gaskets or parts exposed to load, heat, wear or a safety function require validation of the complete design and testing under actual operating conditions.

For a slightly firmer Sakata 3D flexible with a wider choice of colours and spool sizes, see 89 Shore A Sakata 3D FleX-920.
