FDD2-187 female quick-disconnect terminal for crimping onto wires with a cross-sectional area from 1.5 to 2.5mm². It mates with a male tab from the nominal .187 series, equivalent to approximately 4.75mm and commonly described as a 4.8mm quick-disconnect tab.

A separate transparent protective sleeve is included to cover the contact after crimping. This format can be used to make removable connections in 3D printers, CNC machines, power supplies, switches, fans and other electrical or electronic equipment.

Main features

  • Type: female quick-disconnect terminal.
  • Reference: FDD2-187.
  • Nominal format: .187 / 4.75mm, commonly referred to as 4.8mm.
  • Supported wire size: 1.5 to 2.5mm².
  • Orientation: straight.
  • Open-barrel metal contact for crimping.
  • Separate transparent protective sleeve.
  • Removable connection to a compatible male tab.

Understanding the FDD2-187 reference

  • FDD: identifies a female quick-disconnect receptacle.
  • 2: indicates the family intended for conductors of approximately 1.5 to 2.5mm².
  • 187: identifies a nominal 0.187-inch tab, equivalent to 4.75mm in width.

The .187 reference mainly defines the tab width. Tab thickness, contact geometry and retention force must also be checked, as terminals with a similar appearance are not necessarily interchangeable.

Typical applications

  • Switches and power inlets.
  • Power supplies and electrical modules.
  • Fans and motors with quick-disconnect tabs.
  • Heated beds and heating elements when their electrical requirements are suitable.
  • 3D printers, CNC machines and automation equipment.
  • Repairing or manufacturing removable wiring harnesses.

Crimping procedure

  1. Slide the transparent sleeve onto the wire first, in the correct orientation.
  2. Strip only the conductor length required by the crimp section.
  3. Position the conductor inside the terminal wings without leaving loose strands outside.
  4. Crimp the inner wings around the conductor using a tool suitable for open-barrel terminals.
  5. Crimp the outer wings around the insulation to provide mechanical support.
  6. Perform a moderate pull test to make sure that the wire cannot be removed.
  7. Slide the sleeve forward until it completely covers the metal contact.

A correct crimp creates a stable electrical and mechanical joint. Do not crush the terminal with ordinary pliers or add solder to compensate for a poor crimp.

Compatibility checks

  • Confirm that the conductor is between 1.5 and 2.5mm².
  • Check that the male tab belongs to the nominal .187 / 4.75mm format.
  • Verify tab thickness and make sure that the connection has firm retention.
  • Check that the protective sleeve can pass over the cable’s outside diameter.
  • Confirm that the terminal and wire are suitable for the circuit current, voltage and temperature.

A physical fit alone does not establish the permissible current. Actual connection capacity depends on the conductor, contact material and plating, crimp quality, temperature and equipment specifications.

Safety and maintenance

  • Completely disconnect power before fitting or removing the terminal.
  • Do not pull on the wire to disconnect it; hold the protected terminal body.
  • Do not allow the connection to support vibration or mechanical strain without suitable relief.
  • Inspect the connection if discolouration, looseness or heating appears.
  • Do not rely on a damaged sleeve for insulation.

The listed price is for one unit consisting of one female contact and one protective sleeve. The minimum order quantity is 10 units.
