This L-shaped bracket for NEMA 17 stepper motors allows the motor to be installed perpendicular to a base, profile, plate or machine structure. Its right-angle geometry converts the motor's front mounting pattern into a surface mounting arrangement, simplifying integration into 3D printers, CNC machines, laser engravers, plotters, robots and automation projects.

It is particularly useful for driving belts, lead screws, couplings, pulleys and other systems where the motor shaft must be raised and positioned parallel to the mounting surface.

NEMA 17 compatibility

The bracket is designed for motors with a standard NEMA 17 front face. This format uses a motor face measuring approximately 42 × 42 mm and a square mounting pattern of approximately 31 mm between hole centres.

  • Compatible frame format: NEMA 17.
  • Nominal motor face size: approximately 42 × 42 mm.
  • Nominal mounting-hole centre spacing: approximately 31 mm.
  • Usual motor mounting: four M3 screws.
  • Mounting orientation: motor perpendicular to the base.
  • Bracket format: L-shaped right-angle bracket.

These dimensions correspond to the usual NEMA 17 motor interface. The external dimensions, slots and base mounting holes belong to the specific bracket and should be checked on the received unit before machining a plate without adjustment clearance.

Compatible motors from our catalogue

The standard front pattern allows the bracket to be used with different NEMA 17 motor lengths, provided that sufficient clearance is available and the application does not exceed the rigidity of the assembly:

The NEMA 17 designation mainly standardises the motor face and mounting pattern. It does not guarantee compatibility with motors incorporating a gearbox, brake, encoder, large connector, dual shaft or integrated lead screw. Possible interference and available clearance must be checked in these cases.

Typical applications

  • Timing-belt drives in 3D printers and CNC machines.
  • Motor mounting for lead screws and linear motion systems.
  • Laser engravers and cutters.
  • Plotters, dispensers and positioning systems.
  • Small robots and automated mechanisms.
  • Prototypes requiring a NEMA 17 motor mounted at 90° to the base.

Installation recommendations

  • Ensure that the mounting base is flat and sufficiently rigid.
  • Align the motor shaft with the pulley, coupling or driven mechanism.
  • Use M3 screws with a suitable length for the specific motor.
  • Avoid screws that are long enough to enter too deeply into the motor.
  • Tighten the four screws progressively in a diagonal pattern.
  • Do not force the motor or bracket to compensate for misalignment.
  • Check belt tension or coupling alignment after tightening.

Longer and higher-torque NEMA 17 motors may place greater stress on the bracket and mounting surface. For demanding applications, check the rigidity of the complete assembly and prevent vibration or flexing.
