Pair of flexible 12 AWG wires, one red and one black, prepared for making power connections between a DC power supply and the controller board of a 3D printer, CNC machine or another electronic project.

Each conductor is approximately 70cm long and uses stranded tinned copper with flexible silicone insulation. The ends are supplied stripped and pre-tinned, making them easy to identify and prepare for installation.

Compatibility

The pair was originally prepared for connecting a power supply to RAMPS electronics, but it can also be used with other DC boards and systems when their terminals accept 12 AWG wire and the electrical design is suitable.

Compatibility should not be assumed simply because a board operates at 12 or 24V. Check circuit current, required length, polarity, terminal wire-size range and connector capacity before installation.

Safe installation

  • Disconnect the power supply from mains power and allow its capacitors to discharge before handling the wiring.
  • Check polarity at both ends before applying power.
  • Make sure that no copper strands remain outside the terminal.
  • Tighten the terminals according to the power-supply and controller manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Perform an initial test and check that the connections do not become hot during operation.

The ends are supplied pre-tinned. For a permanent power connection in a screw terminal, check the terminal manufacturer’s recommendations. Where appropriate, it may be preferable to cut off the tinned section and fit a correctly crimped ferrule, as solder can deform over time and reduce contact pressure.

Choosing the wire size

Permissible current depends on cable length, voltage drop, temperature, ventilation, bundling and the terminals being used. For this reason, no universal maximum-current rating is assigned to this wire pair.

When the circuit is designed for a smaller wire size, the 50cm 16 AWG flexible wire pair with pin terminals is also available.

EQUIPMENT START UP:

  1. Check that the mains voltage matches the input selected for the source (110/220v)
  2. Connect the power supply to the mains to check the output voltage (12/24v)
  3. The output voltage is adjustable, if it differs from the one you want for your application you can turn the regulator, preferably with the equipment off. Never use a metal screwdriver with the equipment on to make this adjustment.
  4. (Depending on the model) This power supply has a regulated fan, it will turn when it has load, check periodically and in the first use that the fan is activated correctly.

  • Wear dry clothes and rubber shoes to ensure insulation.
  • Do not insert metal objects into the equipment through the ventilation slots.
  • Do not place containers full of liquids on the equipment (danger of short circuit in case of shock).
  • Do not use the equipment near strong magnetic fields (motors, transformers, etc.).
  • Do not expose the equipment to strong shocks or vibrations.
  • Allow the unit to stabilize at room temperature before taking measurements (important for accurate measurement).
  • Do not modify the equipment in any way.
  • The equipment must be opened for service or repair by qualified personnel. It is recommended that repair work be carried out in the presence of a second person trained to perform first aid if necessary.
  • Keep the power source away from children.
  • Before cleaning the box, pull out the plug from the socket. Clean only with mild household cleaner. Make sure that no water gets inside the equipment to avoid possible short circuits and damage to the equipment.
