Filament cleaner with foam insert for 1.75 and 3 mm filament

Compact cleaner designed to remove dust, lint and small loose particles from filament before they enter the extruder and hotend. Its hinged housing contains a foam insert that gently surrounds the material as it advances during printing.

It can be used with 1.75 and 3 mm filament and requires no power, mounting hardware or firmware changes.

Installation

1. Open the side clips on the housing.
2. Place the filament through the centre of the foam insert.
3. Close the housing and make sure the clips engage.
4. Position it between the spool and extruder where it will not create a tight bend or pull the filament sideways.
5. Before printing, move the filament by hand and confirm that it advances without excessive resistance.

What it can and cannot clean

Its purpose is to remove loose particles deposited on the surface. It can be useful for spools stored in the open, dusty environments or machines where filament remains exposed for long periods.

It is not a filament dryer. It does not remove absorbed moisture, clean embedded grease or contamination, or unclog a nozzle. If the material bubbles, pops, strings or produces a rough surface because of moisture, dry it according to the filament manufacturer's instructions.

Maintenance

• Open the housing periodically and remove accumulated dust.
• Replace the foam if it is torn, compressed, heavily contaminated or creates excessive drag.
• Do not compress the filament enough to make the extruder work harder.
• Do not add oil, solvents or other products without confirming compatibility with the filament and hotend.

The cleaner helps keep the filament path cleaner, but it does not replace proper spool storage, an aligned filament guide or periodic extruder and hotend maintenance.
