Volcano
Dragon ACE
Insulating silicone sock for Volcano-type heater blocks. It wraps around the hot section to reduce heat loss, limit the direct effect of part-cooling airflow and help keep the heater block cleaner.
Main benefits
- Thermal insulation: reduces heat loss from the block surface.
- Improved resistance to part-cooling airflow: limits direct cooling of the heater block when strong airflow is used.
- Lower heat radiation towards the print: helps separate the hot block from the cooling intended for the printed part.
- Non-stick surface: makes it harder for small amounts of plastic residue to build up on the covered areas.
- Consumable protection: receives dirt and rubbing that would otherwise affect the heater block directly.
Compatibility
Fit has been checked with our M6 Volcano-type heater block for 3 mm encapsulated sensors and it can be used as a replacement in the configurable Volcano-type hotend.
It may also fit other classic Volcano blocks with equivalent outer geometry, but the product name alone does not confirm compatibility. Compare the external dimensions, block orientation, nozzle position, heatbreak opening, and heater and sensor cable exits.
This is not a universal sock. Do not confuse it with sleeves for short V6 blocks, SuperVolcano, CHC or CHC Pro, TZ-V6, Rapido, Dragon ACE, or other hotends requiring their own shape. Compatibility depends on the installed heater block, not the printer model.
Safe installation
- Allow the hotend to cool completely, switch the printer off and disconnect it.
- Remove the old sock and gently clean away plastic residue without pulling on the wires.
- Align the cut-outs with the nozzle, heatbreak, heater and temperature-sensor cable exits.
- Push it on from below without pinching wires or levering against the heatbreak.
- Do not force it if it does not seat correctly; check the heater-block geometry again.
- Make sure it does not rub against the part-cooling duct, probe, printed part or bed.
- Perform the first heat-up under supervision and verify a stable temperature reading.
Silicone expands when heated, so a firm fit when cold can be normal when the geometry is correct. This does not justify stretching or forcing a sock that does not match the block.
Maintenance and replacement
This is a consumable part. Replace it if it becomes cracked, torn, hardened, distorted, loose or contaminated to the point that it no longer seats correctly. Service life depends on temperature, printed materials, cleaning, rubbing and print failures.
If molten plastic is found beneath the sock, inspect the hotend. The sleeve helps keep the outside cleaner, but it does not repair a leak between the nozzle and heatbreak or replace the printer's thermal protections.
This product is for you if
- You use our Volcano block or a classic block with the same geometry.
- You want to insulate the hot section and reduce residue on the heater block.
- You use strong part cooling and want to limit its direct effect on the hotend.
This product is not for you if
- Your hotend uses a short V6 block or a differently shaped sleeve.
- You cannot check the dimensions, openings and orientation of the installed block.
- You need a part that repairs a material leak or temperature-control fault.
Related replacement parts
The system can be combined with Brass Volcano-type nozzles in 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm, provided that the complete assembly uses the same M6 Volcano geometry.
